DIE HAMBURG ERFAHRUNG
Tropic Cancer

In this video, I/we wanted to show a different kind of interference of visual arts in music, or to put it in more distinctive words: in making clips for music.
The song tropic cancer has no obvious story to tell, and so does the video. It is no imagination or illumination of that what happens on the soundtrack, and the music does not refer to the things in the video.
In fact, Bernard and me, we discussed a lot about that contribution to your festival. We have several readymade clips in our pocket and thought about which one to hand out to the public. It happened to be Tropic cancer because of its literal reference to Miller’s novel which is one of the strongest, most escapist and virulent pieces of poetry we know.
In tropic cancer, Bernard, who is and always was the main-person behind my videos, combined various layers of information (yes, basically, it’s all about information), as it is also described in the text rolling down the screen. Maybe it is even more understandable if your are a child that has not all the disturbing background of knowledge about film, music, arts in general in its mind.

Technically, the film was made I thin within a few days. Bernard works very intuitively, not held back down by meals, sleep or other interests. He develops a thought in a very concentrated way, together with me and then he starts his work as if he was chased by seven hungry tigers.

Out come videos of harassment, speed and sometimes voluptuousness. But in this case, it’s just the film about his – and also my – desire of leaving all charge behind me and just be elsewhere.
